Managing ADHD as a Teacher

Teachers with ADHD often bring incredible passion, creativity, and empathy to the classroom, but they also face a "double workload": managing a room full of students while regulating their own executive functions. This specialized CPD validates the lived experience of the neurodivergent teacher, addressing the specific hurdles of the profession—from the sensory assault of a busy school day to the dopamine-draining demands of grading and administration.

We move beyond general time-management advice to explore ADHD-specific workflows for the educational setting. Participants will explore the cycle of "term-time sprinting" and "holiday crashing," learn how to safeguard their energy against sensory overwhelm, and discover methods to minimize the "administrative tax." This is about shifting from surviving the school year to thriving in it, by working with your brain rather than against it.

Learning Objectives

  • Prevent Professional Burnout: Identify the specific signs of "ADHD burnout" in the teaching profession and create a sensory safety plan for high-stimulation school days.

  • Streamline Administration: Apply executive function strategies specifically for teachers to tackle grading, report writing, and lesson planning without succumbing to procrastination or paralysis.

  • Manage Emotional Regulation: Develop techniques to manage emotional dysregulation when dealing with challenging student behaviors or staffroom dynamics (RSD).

  • Advocate in the Workplace: Understand how to frame your needs and request reasonable adjustments from school leadership to create a sustainable working environment.
