Receiving an ADHD diagnosis later is a profound life event that triggers a complex emotional cycle including relief, validation, and often significant grief for "lost years." This session focuses on the unique presentation of ADHD in adults which often looks different than childhood stereotypes due to years of coping mechanisms and the journey of re-evaluating one's past through a neurodivergent lens.
What You Will Learn
Understand the Emotional Arc: Participants will be able to identify the stages of the "diagnosis processing cycle" common in adults, including the grief of lost potential and the relief of explanation.
Differentiate Adult Presentation:Learners will understand how adult ADHD presents differently from childhood ADHD, specifically regarding internalized hyperactivity and high-functioning anxiety.
Reframe Self-Concept: Attendees will learn strategies to help late-diagnosed individuals shift from a "moral failing" narrative (lazy, unmotivated) to a "neurobiological" narrative.
